Our Philosophy

There is something fundamentally wrong in the way most established businesses are run   

  • The vast majority of businesses fail over time and many of the survivors continue to struggle. Statistics show that more than 80% of businesses close within 21 years of formation. This is despite the fact that most businesses are run by smart, educated and motivated people who apply the most modern management practices. This implies that there is something fundamentally wrong in the modern management practices that most Entrepreneurs use to run their businesses
  • We believe that Entrepreneurs need to first recognise this fact, and then understand what they are doing wrong in running their businesses, before looking at a new approach
  • This is not easy, as these wrong practices are embedded in business, and to question them takes a lot of courage, intuition and experience

 

It is possible for a business to quickly create a significant long term competitive advantage without patents or huge investments

  • Many entrepreneurs are in a rat race with their immediate competitors. Since the vast majority of entrepreneurs are not industry leaders they feel that they are doomed to continue struggling in businesses for the foreseeable future. They try and emulate what the industry leaders are doing, not realising that due to the difference in size, they will not be able to reap similar benefits using the same strategies
  • We believe that Entrepreneurs need to understand that by using a new approach, it is possible to quickly create a significant long term advantage without patents or huge investments, which will enable a business to be very successful in the short and long term.

 

Most management consultants do not deliver dramatic value

  • Many management consultants are functional experts, and hence focus on a particular function like Finance or HR. It is very clear that improving a non-critical function will not provide dramatic value to the client
  • Most management consultants are not business oriented and so spend upto several months on trying to understand the business and diagnosing the various problems of the client. This is done by interviewing many key people in the client organisation. This approach leads to the identification of many micro level problems, and the outcome of the project is a thick report with micro level recommendations, most of which will never provide dramatic value to the client
  • Since most management consultants deploy a full time team during the engagement and charge on a time and material basis, the fees are quite significant. This leads to short 3-6 month engagements which stop at the recommendation stage and do not lead to implementation
  • Due to these approaches, most management consultants are not in a position to deliver dramatic value to clients, and so are not willing to tie a significant part of their fees to the actual results obtained from the project 
  • RCG provides business advisory as opposed to management consulting services. Using our expertise, we look at the entire business and are able to diagnose the key problem very quickly. We then start focusing on the initiatives that will give quick and significant benefits to the client. We use the client team to implement the initiatives, which leads to better buy in and results. As we are able to deliver dramatic value to clients within a short time, we tie a significant part of our fees to the actual results obtained from the engagement
  • We believe that Entrepreneurs should work with business advisors who can deliver dramatic and sustainable improvements in a short period of time, and are willing to tie a significant part of their fees to the actual results
